A former council worker and scout leader is facing jail after pleading guilty to a series of child abuse charges.

Henry Calder (60), from Kirkintilloch, appeared at the High Court in Glasgow last Tuesday, where he admitted downloading and filming child pornography - unearthed during a raid by police as part of Operation Alba in July last year.

They included videos filmed at Scout camps in the 1980’s and 1990’s - Calder was a Scout leader for approximately 40 years.

The court heard that Calder had 140,201 indecent pictures of children and 4,870 indecent films of children.

Calder, who worked in the finance department of East Dunbartonshire Council before retiring in 2010, also pled guilty to five charges of lewd and libidinous practices and behaviour at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre, in Glasgow, and Fordell Firs National Scout Activity Centre, near Dunfermline.

Lord Turnbull placed Calder on the sex offenders’ register and deferred sentence on him until next month at the High Court in Livingston.
