RISING stars are tuning up for a showcase Christmas concert in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Around 90 members of East Dunbartonshire’s Secondary Schools Orchestra will team up with more than 200 primary school choir singers for the festive event on Monday, December 5, at 7.30pm.

Other contributions will be made by the Gaelic Unit of Meadowburn Primary, Merkland School and the primary school string ensemble.

It is one of the highlights of the year for the East Dunbartonshire Friends of Instrumental Music Service (FIMEDS).

The charity was set up in 1999 to provide instruments and tuition fees for youngsters with musical ambitions.

As well as the secondary school orchestra and primary school choirs, East Dunbartonshire Instrumental Music Service runs two string orchestras, two wind bands, a jazz orchestra, a guitar ensemble and a percussion ensemble.

Tickets for the Christmas concert are currently on sale from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall box office

Meanwhile, this Friday, November 25, FIMEDS are holding a fundraising family ceilidh in Bishopbriggs Academy at 7.30pm featuring the ‘Keep it Reel Ceilidh Band’. Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2 for children and are available on the door.
