Stars to shine at business awards

Preparations are underway for the 2015 East Dunbartonshire Business Awards - which will showcase innovative entrepreneurs and enterprises.

The inaugural awards in 2014 highlighted some of the inspirational work taking place locally to generate income, jobs and investment in East Dunbartonshire.

Winners from last year’s event have urged local businesses and innovators to put themselves forward for the 2015 awards.

Brian Muirie, director of Dieselec Thistle Generators, said: “Winning the 2014 Best Large Employer award has no doubt helped us continue to grow and improve. As a company operating nationally, but based in Milngavie, it’s important for us not to neglect our most immediate market, East Dunbartonshire.

“The award raised our profile locally, bringing opportunities from local customers and suppliers alike. It also gave our neighbours an insight into why all these Dieselec Thistle lorries and vans are constantly buzzing around their streets.”

The event will be launched soon, with nominations opening in March.

A panel of judges from the council, partners and business sector will again help to choose the finalists, who will be invited to a special awards dinner on Friday, May 29 at The Eagle Lodge in Bishopbriggs.

A total of 34 companies were nominated for last year’s awards, with more than 130 guests attending the final at The Eagle Lodge to celebrate the winners - and contenders - in each of the 10 categories.

As well as the awards, the final will again include a charity fundraiser in aid of a number of local organisations. The 2014 event raised more than £7,000 for a range of good causes.Sponsors are currently being arranged for the 2015 awards, with the Kirkintilloch Herald Series and Milngavie & Bearsden Herald back on board as media sponsors.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of development and regeneration, said: “Preparations for the 2015 awards are gathering pace and I am looking forward to officially launching the event soon.

“The 2014 awards were a tremendous celebration of the many hard-working men and women helping to power East Dunbartonshire’s economy.

“I am delighted to hear that the awards have helped to boost the profile of firms.”
