A 16-year-old star athlete has landed gold in the Scottish under-18 1500m.
Despite giving away nearly two years in age to other runners, Bishopbriggs Academy pupil Stella Winters triumphed at the national event at Scotstoun recently with a time of 4 mins 46 secs.
With another year at under-18 level before she moves up to under-20, big things are expected of the Shettleston Harriers runner who was picked to attend a specialised training day with double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes last summer.
But rather than set any goals of Commonwealth or Olympic success, Stella says she prefers to concentrate on her immediate future.
Stella, from Bishopbriggs, said: “I just want to see how this year goes. I want to do well in my Highers and I missed most of the cross country season last year with stomach problems so this year’s about studying, concentrating on improving my time at 1500 and doing more longer runs.”
