Steps taken to allay fears of high rise tenants following Grenfell tragedy

But in the wake of the horrific Grenfell disaster in London main city landlord Glasgow Housing Association has taken extra steps to answer tenants’ concerns.

Meanwhile Scottish councils are carrying out a full appraisal of fire safety.

A Fire Brigade Union official has also called for a reappraisal of safety in Scottish high rises in a bid to give further reassurance to tenants.

In Ayrshire precautionary tests are being carried out on building cladding to ensure it is safe.

Glasgow’s stock of high rises ranges across the city, from areas like Knightswood to the Gorbals.

A GHA spokesman said: “We are continuing to reassure our tenants that we have a robust safety approach in place across our multi-storeys to minimise the risk of fire and prevent it spreading.

“We have set up a helpline for any concerned tenants who need extra reassurance.

“We will listen very carefully to any additional safety recommendations or advice from the authorities as a result of the London fire and are standing ready to take any necessary actions around any lessons to be learned.”

“The materials used in our multi-storey investment programme meet all Scottish building standards and regulations. They are designed to resist the spread of fire and are non-combustible.”

“We carry out daily patrols as well as regular inspections as part of our broader approach.

“This includes quarterly fire inspections in multi-storeys by our partners at Scottish Fire and Rescue.”
