A community group is appealing for 10,000 pounds worth of funding to improve the Strathkelvin Railway Path and tap into the cycling tourism market.
The Lennoxtown Project Group has applied to Aviva’s Community Fund and they need public votes in order to secure the money.
They hope to fit benches and solar lighting along a three mile stretch of the walk way.
Catriona Millican volunteers with the project group and hopes that the local community will get behind their campaign.
She said: “I’ve met a few people lately who are really excited about tourism in campsie.
“Racing cyclists have been spotted training on the roads and they’re really well known in their field. They’re using our roads to train for international events.
“Cycling is already bringing in families and visitors who want a cycling holiday.
“There have also been moves to provide holiday accommodation in Lennoxtown. It’s a brilliant place for exploring.”
“All the potential is there, it just takes a bit of developing.”
Vote by registering on community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/2354/ and everyone has ten votes to allocate to worthwhile projects.
