Students helping to support cancer cause

Rachael, who is doing an honours degree in nursing, is president of GCU Dance and helped organise a fundraising performance involving 25 students.

Rachael, who recently lost her papa after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, said she and fellow committee members, Beth Grandison from Dunfermline and Louise Docherty from Cambuslang, chose Cancer Support Scotland because of the free complementary therapies it provides for people with cancer and their families.

She said: “All of us in the group understand how much cancer affects not only the patient but also all their family and those who support them. Cancer Support Scotland offers help to all those involved at a very difficult time.

“All the performers and everyone who attended the event had a great night. We now intend to hold further events to continue raising money for Cancer Support Scotland.”

Colin Graham, chief executive of Cancer Support Scotland, said he was “delighted” the students had chosen to support the charity.

He said: “This was a terrific first effort and we really appreciate their efforts.

“All the services we provide are free and the charity relies on donations like this to help the increasing number of people surviving cancer and who are seeking our help.

“If any other group, or individual, can help by raising funds for the charity, I urge them to get in touch with us.”
