DESPERATE thieves stole lead with a street value of £450 from the roof of a local school.

Members of the public are being asked to help track down thieves who targeted the roof of Lenzie Moss Primary between 1pm on Thursday, June 30, and 1pm on Friday, July 1.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s head of assets and property services, Grace Irvine, said: “We can confirm that a quantity of lead was stolen from the roof of Lenzie Moss Primary.

“The matter has been reported to Strathclyde Police and we are assisting them with their enquiries.”

Meanwhile, would-be crooks were thwarted in their attempts to break into a Masonic hall recently.

They climbed onto the roof of the Barrhill Twechar 1444 Lodge and removed numerous tiles before trying to clamber down through the vents to enter the premises below.

Barrhill Twechar 1444 Lodge Secretary Alexander Allan told the Herald: “They didn’t get any further and nothing was stolen.”

The incident happened between 10pm on Thursday, June 30, and 11.30am on Friday, July 1.

Anyone with any information on either of the crimes is asked to contact Kirkintilloch Police Office on 0141 532 4400 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
