LOCAL traders want council chiefs to provide more free parking and attract a greater variety of shops in their upcoming Kirkintilloch town Centre masterplan.
Council chiefs have been in talks with stakeholders and community groups to deliver a series of schemes designed to attract investment in the town.
They are expected to unveil the plans in the next few days - but small independent business owners already know what they want.
Julie Ralston, co-owner of the Old Sweetie Shop in the town’s Cowgate, said: “More free parking would be key to improving business and would encourage more people to come into the town centre.
“We also need more businesses to be attracted to the town and a greater variety of shops.
“Kirkintilloch is such a beautiful place with such nice people - it’s a shame that more isn’t being done to improve the town centre shopping.”
