Tributes were paid this week to a stalwart of the Kirkintilloch community who died recently.
The chair of the town’s community council, Heather Gartshore passed away in hospital last month after an illness.
Leading the tributes, the community council’s acting chairman Gordon Carmichael described the 73-year-old as its “driving force”.
He added: “Despite failing health, Heather remained committed to the community. Her loss is huge.”
As chair of the community council, Heatehr went the extra mile, including voluntarily storing the dresses for the popular annual Gala Day in her own home.
At her funeral at Glasgow Crematorium on January 16, Registered Humanist Celebrant Linda Britton said: “Heather was the linchpin, the impetus to keep the gala an annual event as it became increasingly difficult to keep people enthusiastic.
“Heather was a perfectionist. She always found a way, even if it seemed impossible.”
Heather was also hugely active with East Dunbartonshire Public Partnership Forum, Contact Point, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and East Dunbartonshire Grants Advisory Committee.
She was also a befriender to a number of people, visiting them and taking them to hospital.
Linda added: “Heather was well known for her work in the community and stood up for people, but she was also known for being a good friend and a much loved member of her family.”
Heather is survived by her two sons Scott and Iain.
