A TALENTED musician is on a high after reaching the semi-final of a national competition.
KT O’Neill (14), from Bishopbriggs, topped the Scottish under-16 public wildcard vote to win a place in the semi-final of the Open Mic UK contest, which searches for the country’s best unsigned talent.
The Turnbull High pupil, who performed Adele’s ‘Someone like you’ during the contest’s regional final in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall in August, is now set to take to the stage for the semi-final in Manchester in December.
And she could win a £50,000 recording contract if she wins the competition’s final at London’s O2 arena next year.
KT, who is a member of Bishopbriggs Ceilidh Band, said: “I’m delighted to have got so far in such a big competition.
“It’s amazing and it was a bit of a shock to top the wildcard leaderboard.
“It would be an amazing feeling to win the competition, but even if I don’t get further, it has been a great experience.”
Peter O’Neill, KT’s dad and leader of the Bishopbriggs Ceilidh Band, said: “It’s a great opportunity for her.
“Music’s all she lives for and it’s a good reward for all her hard work.”
