Dedicated volunteers clearing up a former village train station had a surprise find recently when they unearthed the original station sign posts.

The two wooden posts were discovered at Milton of Campsie Railway Station - which has been transformed by a programme of community work in recent months.

Members of Campsie Historical Society say that the finds are well over a century old and were located on the Lennoxtown side of the station.

They had been covered in moss and ivy for years but volunteers managed to clean them up and now hope to organise a replica sign to finish the job.

A project organiser said: “This incredible find brings real excitement to our project.

“The posts could be as old as 150 years. We will work hard to create an exact replica of what was once at the station and hopefully we will get a new sign in place sometime next year.”

The next station improvement day wil be held on Saturday, November 1, from 10am and all are welcome to come along to lend a hand.
