Woodfarm pupils hit the books

Reading is a pleasure for Woodfarm High’s first year pupils, as proved by a successful Readathon.

The S1s were challenged to a sponsored read and rose to the challenge, flying through as many books as they could manage and raising £1,270 for charity and free books for the school library in the process.

Readathon is a nationwide charity which donates sponsorship money to ReadWell, CLIC Sargent, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and Together for Short Lives, in support of sick children.

Mrs Alison Mundie, Woodfarm High’s librarian, told The Extra: “I recommend Readathon to any teacher or librarian who wants to get their pupils reading for pleasure.

“Readathon creates a real buzz about books in the school. I found children talking about books, sharing and swapping favourites, and genuinely motivated to read.

Parents became involved in what their children were reading and shared precious time together talking about books.”

And it’s a good job that Woodfarm kids are wrapped up in books, as the challenge has also earned them £254 worth of new reads for the school library.
