A BASKETBALL star of the future has slam-dunked his way into the Scottish team.
Alistair McDermid (14), from Kirkintilloch, will play for Scotland’s junior side after being talent-spotted by selectors.
He said: “I was playing for Lanarkshire in a big competition with teams from all over Scotland.
“The best 20 players were chosen to go to the national trials and then the top 12 were selected for the Scotland team.
“Next month we’re playing in Northern Ireland against the home nations, then in August we’re going to Barcelona to play against teams from all over Europe. It’s really exciting.”
Mum Melanie said: “We are so proud of him. He’s worked very hard to get to where he is.”
It’s the latest success for the Kirkintilloch High pupil, who was introduced to the sport at a young age.
