A TEENAGE boy was stabbed in an “unprovoked” attack as he made his way home from a night-out in the early hours of the morning.

Police are treating the assault on the 17-year-old as attempted murder and said that he could have died had it not been for the help of local residents.

The horrific ordeal took place as the boy was walking along Wallacewell Road in Balornock at around 4.20am on Sunday.

He was involved in a verbal exchange with two men who then stabbed him.

The teenager then ran along Wallacewell Road onto Briarcroft Road where he was helped by local residents who contacted emergency services.

He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and has been transferred to Gartnavel Hospital for further treatment.

The suspects, who made off along Wallacewell Road, are described as being white with local accents.

Detective Sergeant Paul Sharp, who is heading the enquiry team, said: “This young man is very lucky to be alive following this unprovoked attack. Had it not been for the help of local residents he may well have lost his life.

“Officers are carrying out extensive enquiries including going door-to-door and checking CCTV in order to identify those responsible for this attempted murder.”

He added: “I would appeal to anyone who was around the vicinity of Wallacewell Road either on foot or in a taxi near the time of the incident to contact us as soon as possible.

“I would also ask anyone who saw two men in the area acting suspiciously to get in touch.”
