Commonwealth Games star Kirsty Yates at Carnwath PS
Kirsty (21), from Dalbeattie in Kirkcudbrightshire, is one of the UK’s top female shot putters. She concentrates just as much on speed and agility in her training regime as she does on throwing ever longer distances.
Her six hours at Carnwath Primary were spent teaching pupils how to throw the shot and participating in question and answer sessions.

“Kirsty explained that she is able to throw the shot putt so far due to her technique.”
Kirsty, who at time of going to press had a personal best throw of 16.09m, gave hints and tips to youngsters from the seven school and two nursery classes.
