AN up-and-coming swimmer is celebrating after enjoying a record breaking year.
Eilidh Smith (10), from Kirkintilloch, has broken nine Scotia Swimming Club records, including a 50 metres breast stroke time which had stood for 17 years, clinching the club's 10 and under championship in the process.
The young swimmer, who has been a member of the Bishopbriggs club for three years, now hopes to continue her winning streak by qualifying for the final of the 12 and under Scottish Schools Championships (SSC).
She recently swam for her school, Harestanes Primary, at the SSC qualifying events, recording a personal best time.
Catriona Smith, Eilidh's mum, said: "It is a really fantastic achievement to hold so many records, she has had a very successful year and swimming for Harestanes Primary at the Scottish Schools Championship was a great achievement.
"I am really proud of her. I'm not a strong swimmer so I don't know where she gets it from.
"When she started out I just wanted her to be a confident swimmer, I didn't expect to be taking her to a club four nights a week. It's something she enjoys and she sees it as a social event as well."
Eilidh is now hoping to qualify for the West District Championships 12 and under where she will compete against the best female swimmers in the area.
