Big games just keep on coming for Rob Roy boss Maxwell

In common with most junior sides the Kirkintilloch side have a backlog of fixtures to catch up on following a host of postponements.

The latest for Rob Roy was last week’s league game with Cumnock at Guy’s Meadow, although that did at least allow Maxwell to undertake a spying mission by taking in the Wishaw v Forth Wanderers Scottish Junior Cup tie.
Wishaw’s win set up a fifth round trip for them to Yoker, with the winners of that hosting Rabs in the last eight on March 17.

So far this season Rob Roy have put out holders Glenafton and East Region Superleague sides Kennoway Star Hearts and Linlithgow Rose.

Maxwell said: “On paper you want to avoid Auchinleck and Beith, they’re the two big hitters.

“But whoever comes through will be no mugs because they’re in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. It’s a tie we’re confident we can win but at the same time we’ve got to perform.”

The weather has also put paid to this Saturday’s scheduled Central League Cup second round tie clash at home to Kilsyth Rangers.

Kilsyth were 3-0 winners over Rabs in the Sectional League Cup back in August.

And while some may not regard the trophy as highly as the Scottish or the West, that doesn’t matter to Maxwell.

He said: “At a club like Rob Roy every game’s a big game and every cup’s a big cup. I don’t prioritise anything.

“When we played Kilsyth at the start of the season we had a lot of injuries and it’s probably our poorest performance of the season, so we’ll be looking to rectify that.

“If you are doing well in the major competitions, as obviously we are, you’ve got to keep focussed because that winning mentality breeds confidence throughout the whole team.

“We’ve got to keep performing. We’re still in three cups and with an outside chance of winning the league and want to be fighting on all fronts for as long as we can.

“Injuries are starting to clear up and we’re starting to get back to full strength.

“How long that will last I don’t know because we’ll have a big run of games.

“You don’t go out at the start of the season and sign 11 players, you sign 18 or 19.

“Everybody in my squad’s capable of starting and the squad’s going to be tested to its limit in the next two months, so we’ve got to rotate it as best we can in positions where we’ve got a bit of strength in depth.

“I’m quite comfortable that every player we’ve got in the squad is capable of stepping up to the mark and come in and do a job.”
