CHEAPLY conceded goals at the beginning of each half proved the downfall for Rob Roy as a stronger Arthurlie team ensured all three points remained at Dunterlie Park.
West of Scotland Premier Division
IT was the home side who began on the attack and they took a fifth minute lead when the ball was played down the left wing and, with no apparent danger, Rabs goalkeeper McNeil sped from his goal allowing John Johnston time to exquisitely lob the ball over the on-rushing stopper and into the unguarded net from an acute angle.
Rob Roy’s Sinclair just failed to make contact with a Craig cross then at the other end McNeil made a super diving save from McLaughlin and, minutes later, Steven McKeown rifled a powerful shot inches over the bar from the edge of the box.
With both sides defending solidly, chances were at a premium although Craig should have levelled for Rabs mid-way through the half.
With only keeper Parry to beat, however, his effort lacked sting and was saved easily.
On the half-time whistle, Gary Gow brought out a good stop from keeper Parry.
The Barrhead side increased their lead after only six second-half minutes when MacGregor - with plenty of time to clear - was muscled off the ball out on the right wing, allowing Denis McLaughlin the opportunity to run through and send a low shot into the corner of the net.
On the hour mark, McQuilken fired over from the edge of the box then in the 67th minute, strong Rob Roy claims for a penalty for handball were turned aside by referee Robertson.
In the 71st minute the visitors pulled a goal back.
After good lead up play from Dunlop and Gow, Chris Zok latched onto a loose ball to hammer home from inside the box. However, McNeil showed great instincts to come to Rabs’ rescue a minute later when blocking an Adam effort.
In a frantic late rally Parry, under pressure, punched clear a Gow corner in a packed goal-mouth, then Feroz came close with a snap-shot and Zok’s header just cleared the bar as Rabs fought to salvage a point - but with desperate defending Arthurlie held out to keep their championship chances alive.
