After what wasn’t a great day for Harestanes the best that can be said is that they are still in the Scottish Cup.
Southside were well up for this encounter against the cup holders who struggled throughout the match and couldn’t get their passing game going as Southside gave them little space.
The Kirkintilloch side did have good chances and had they taken advantage of these in the first half it could all have been different, but in the end they were happy enough to accept the replay.
Cawley had a chance in the fourth minute when he got a touch on a Craig Young cross, but the ’keeper put the ball out for the corner. McClure sent the ball in but Young could only head off the top of the bar.
In the 27th minute Fitzsimmons also headed off the top of the bar.
The closest Southside had come was was a header which went wide.
Harper had a decent opportunity from the 18-yard line but shot low and narrowly wide, while at the other end Southside came close with a good dig which was just blocked by Whiteford.
A free kick from Fitzsimmons brought out an excellent low save from the keeper before Travers then pulled off a great save from a good attempt from Southside.
The home side took the lead through a beauty of a shot which looped up and in at the top right corner.
Harestanes should have equalised when Harper worked hard to get in a cross from the by-line; Young headed wide of the open goal.
However the visitors were level in the 68th minute when a short corner on the right found Harper and his shot from the edge of the box rifled in at the right.
Southside did have a strong penalty claim turned down but in the end a draw was probably a fair enough result.
