A WATERLOGGED pitch saw Rob Roy cooling their heels at the weekend, with the first league game of the year postponed.
Rabs were due to take on Largs Thistle on Saturday but the game was called off due to the condition of the Largs pitch.
Gaffer Jimmy Lindsay swiftly arranged a friendly against Forth Wanderers at Bathgate astroturf pitches – which his team duly won 3-2 (see above).
He said: “It was disappointing to have the game cancelled, but at least we were told about it early enough to sort out another game.
“It was a good game on a terrific surface and it was great to see several players back from injury - including Adam Coakley who got a well-deserved hat-trick – and get the new boys some game time.”
Expecting more postponed games, Lindsay is organising a number of midweek friendlies against professional opposition starting with Cowdenbeath last night (Tuesday). Rabs will also take on Alloa and St Johnstone in the coming weeks.
Lindsay said: “I’m using my contacts to set up some high-quality games so the players can see just how much is required at that level.”
This Saturday they take on Kilbirnie Ladeside in the league – a team they thrashed 5-1 in August.
Saturday’s game against Kilbirnie Ladeside is due to kick off at 1.45pm at Adamslie Park.
Meanwhile, Rossvale will hope to start 2012 as they finished 2011 and get three points against bottom-of-the-table Stonehouse Violet.
The match against Stonehouse will kick off this Saturday at 1.45pm at Tilework Park.
