Holders Harestanes face yet another Scottish Cup replay after letting a two-goal lead slip in their quarter-final tie with Possil YM at Merkland on Saturday.
It’s the fourth time the Kirkintilloch side have been taken to a second match, all after draws at home, in this season’s competition.
Hares looked to have the tie won at half-time but Possil never gave up and earned the right to fight another day.
Chris Harper came close to shooting Harestanes into an early need but his low effort from the 18-yard line slipped narrowly passed.
Possil then gifted Harestanes the opener when McDonnell tried to play the ball across to his ’keeper but instead found Paul McLaughlin instead who had the easiest of opportunities to find the empty net.
Craig Young came close but his shot was just wide and Jason Eliott then had a go but the Possil ’keeper collected.
John Thomson put Harestanes further ahead before half-time with a free-kick to the right of the ‘D’, his excellent effort sailing in top left.
Possil pulled one back 15 minutes into the second half with a neatly taken effort. The ball was played over the defenders, their man collected and sent a nice little dink over Travers and in.
From then they came more into the game as Harestanes fell out of it and scored a deserved equaliser late in the half as a low angled shot went in despite the efforts of Adam Durick to prevent it.
The replay will take place St Monica’s astro in Milton on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
Harestanes Tote: there were no winners, £200 rollover.
