Kirkintilloch Rob Roy ready for Dundonald Bluebell cup challenge
Rob Roy take a break from their league campaign this weekend when they face Dundonald Bluebell in a rearranged cup tie.
The SoccerShop Challenge Cup second round tie is due to take place at Bluebell’s Moorside Park.
But concerns over the pitch prompted them to switch their senior Scottish Cup tie with Easthouses Lily - a match they won 4-2 - to Raith Rovers’ Stark’s Park last Saturday.
And Rabs boss Stewart Maxwell says he wouldn’t be averse to a similar switch of venue, or day, if required.
He said: “I’m hoping if necessary they switch our game as well because you don’t want the game hanging on.
“If they speak to us early enough we would be happy to accommodate a Friday night or a Sunday.”
Regardless of when or where the game is played, Maxwell knows his side face a tough test.
But he will take hear from last week’s 4-2 win over Bonnyton Thistle at Guy’s Meadow, only Rabs’ second win of the season.
After falling behind Rob Roy came back to lead 2-1 with a Scott Gold double before Bonnyton levelled before the break.
However Robbie Leighton put Rob Roy back in front just before the hour and Craig Truesdale added a late fourth.
Maxwell said: “In the first half we had a lot of the play and scored two really good goals. But we conceded two really poor goals as well
“If we’d scored to go 3-1 up I think we could have racked up a decent score but going in 2-2 at half-time galvanised them.
“In the second half we got the ball down and played some really good football. And the passing and movement for the two goals in the second half were as good as you’ll see on a heavy surface at that level.”
