Rob Roy manager Stewart Maxwell has admitted he was “bitterly disappointed” to see his team crash to their worst defeat of the season.
Rabs led Hurlford United after 18 minutes on Saturday, but two dreadful periods at the end of each half saw the Kirkintilloch team leak five unanswered goals.
Maxwell said: “It’s the most disappointed I’ve been all season. For the first 15 minutes we were slightly the better side, scored, and then for the next 15-20 minutes were the better side without dominating.
“Then we had a crazy 15 minutes at the end of the half where we gave away three goals, including a soft penalty.
“We tried to give it a go in the second half but too many of our players were simply having an off day.
“There’s no reason why we can’t compete with these sorts of teams, but we didn’t perform and in fairness they were excellent.”
This Saturday sees Rabs take on Darvel Juniors in the first round of the West of Scotland Cup and Maxwell has urged his players to give them maximum respect.
He said: “We have a couple of cup games against lower league opponents and I’ve reminded our players that this will be a cup final to them, so we must set about it the right way.”
Rob Roy take on Darvel Juniors at Adamslie Park on Saturday. Kick-off is at 2pm.
