A brave effort just wasn’t quite enough for Kirkintilloch amateur side Harestanes as they lost their historic Scottish Cup tie to Ayrshire side Girvan on Saturday.
Flying the flag for the amateur game - as the first-ever Scottish Amateur Cup winners to be invited to take part in the mainstream Scottish Cup - Harestanes gave a decent account of themselves in the match played at Kilsyth Rangers’ Duncansfield ground.
But in the end that wasn’t quite enough as Girvan ran out 3-0 winners.
The Ayrshire scored the opener in the later stages of the first half and had to withstand some determined Harestanes pressure after the break before doubling their advantage against the run of play.
An injury-time third rubbed salt into the Harestanes wounds.
