LOWLY Arthurlie beat Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Saturday at Adamslie Park.

Dreadful first-half defending by Rob Roy gave bottom markers Arthurlie a two-goal interval advantage, but even with a much-improved second-half performance they were unable to take anything from the game.
Dillon had the ball in the Rabs’ net in the fifth minute only to be signalled offside. Deas then sent a cross flashing across the Arthurlie goalmouth with no takers then Jarvis fired an 18-yard volley wide.
Smith squandered a glorious chance to give Arthurlie the lead in the 17th minute when he blasted the ball over the bar in front of goal, however, the striker made amends two minutes later when he nodded a Blakey free-kick past McPherson with the Rabs defence ball watching.
With gaps appearing in the Rabs defence, Smith ran through but failed to keep his shot on target. Deas then set up Sawyers, but his mis-hit effort went wide of the post. The visitors doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Smith rose to head a cross from the right into the net with the home defence again looking suspect. Shortly before the break Deas sent a 25-yard free-kick narrowly over the bar.
Five minutes into the second half Rabs should have pulled a goal back when Sawyers headed a Deas corner down to Urquhart in front of goal, but his snatched shot flew over the bar. Rafferty came close at the other end shooting just over. Rabs were a better side in the second half. Urquhart’s free-kick was brilliantly tipped past the post by Macklin, Mitchell headed a Deas corner wide then Hay fired past from distance.
Rabs survived a scare in the 62nd minute when Stewart’s snapshot hit the post with McPherson beaten. Six minutes later Rabs pulled a goal back when Urquhart latched on to a poor clearance and sent a crisp shot into the net.
Rabs went for the equaliser. Urquhart had his shot blocked then from a Duff corner the same player’s header lacked power and failed to trouble keeper Macklin. Arthurlie came close to adding to their tally when Rafferty’s free-kick hit the side netting.
There were goalmouth incidents at both ends in the final minutes. Sawyers brought out a fine stop from Macklin then Smith passed up a great opportunity to grab his hat-trick when McPherson dropped the ball, but he could only hit the post.
