Rob Roy progressed to the second round of the Central League Cup with a 5-1 win at Central Division 1 Lesmahagow on Saturday.
The home side scored first but their hopes of an upset came to nothing as Rabs’ superior fitness told.
Lesmahagow took the lead in the 21st minute when Fitzpatrick took advantage of indifferent Rabs defending to break into the penalty box before unleashing a high volley past Murdoch.
But ’Gow’s lead lasted only four minutes as, from a Lee Gallacher corner, Maguire stooped to head past ’keeper Barnes.
Lesmahagow’s Daryl Meikle fired over from distance and had a drive blocked by Pearson, while at the other end Willie Sawyers headed wide from a good position.
The second half began with Rabs claiming the majority of possession with Lesmahagow barely threatening.
The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute when Sawyers went down in the box under a clumsy Jack McDonald challenge, Substitute Chris Duff confidently drilled the award past Barnes.
With Gow appearing to tire, Rabs made it 3-1 when Gallacher passed to Steven Aitken to knock the ball into the Gow net from close range.
Rabs added another in the 82nd minute when a clever move involving Duff and Maguire set up Pearson for an easy finish.
With two minutes remaining, Maguire rattled the bar with a powerful shot before, with the last kick of the ball Finnigan added a fifth, firing a 15 yard shot past the static Barnes for a comfortable victory.
