Rossvale boss Martin Lauchlan was a happy man after seeing his side make it through to the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup.
Rossvale eased their way through with a 2-0 win over McBookie.com South Division opponents Pumpherston.
Following the win Lauchlan said: “The main thing in the cup is to make sure you get into the next round and that’s what we did.
“They were a decent side but I thought we were always in control and could have scored more.
“The other good things is that we’re still top of the table with a game less played because the other league results went our way.”
Early exchanges were cagey before Rossvale took the lead in 12 minutes.
They were awarded a penalty for a clumsy challenge by McLachlan on Yami Misanjo and although Chris McQuade’s spot kick was well blocked by Hunter, the Rossvale man made no mistake from the rebound.
Hunter had to scramble across to block a cheeky Chris McQuade free kick at his near post while at the other end the Rossvale defence limited Pumpherston to half chances.
Rossvale doubled their lead nine minutes before the interval.
Close to the edge of his area, Hunter could only parry a Michael Hardie through ball under pressure from Misanjo who collected the loose ball and made no mistake from 20 yards.
After the break Pumpherston’s McLachlan headed over from a Smith corner before Misanjo came even closer at the other end with a flashing header which came off the bar.
Hardie came just as close five minutes later, his right foot attempt coming off the upright after Hunter could only palm out a Chris McQuade cross.
Jason McKay then had Hunter produce the save of the match with a diving header opportunity as Rossvale ran out worthy winners.
Rossvale are away to St Anthony’s this week in the Central First Division.
