West of Scotland Super Premier League

Rob Roy dominated for much of the match to run out impressive and comfortable winners – recording two wins from their two opening matches.

Rob Roy began strongly, causing the Ladeside defence problems. Deas was pulled down by McDonald on the edge of the Ladeside box in the 12th minute. He took the resultant free-kick himself and was unlucky to see it cannon against the crossbar.

As Rabs pushed forward Duff sent a 25-yard volley over the bar.

A McKenzie defensive error allowed Kilbirnie’s McPherson a chance at goal, but he wasted the opportunity by blazing over the bar.

Then in the 34th minute Rabs seized the initiative after a clever move involving Duff and McKenzie set up Sawyers to net easily.

Four minutes later the Adamslie Park side doubled their advantage when Martin headed a long Merrillees throw-in past Robertson.

Immediately after half-time Ladeside had their best spell with Barclay’s free-kick cleared by Smith then the forward tested McKinven with a snap shot. On the hour mark a long McKinven clearance caused problems for the Ladeside defence, allowing substitute Jarvis to run through to fire a deflected shot into the net with his first touch of the game.

Ladeside attempted to haul themselves back into contention, but Mullin’s effort lacked power and failed to trouble home keeper McKinven.

The visitors suffered an injury blow in the 65th minute when Barclay fell heavily in the goalmouth and after a lengthy delay was assisted off the field.

In the latter stages it was very much one-way traffic with play in and around the Ladeside penalty box. Keeper Robertson saved low from a Deas angular shot who then had a shot blocked at the near post before latching on to a Martin pass only to fire wide.

With Ladeside causing little threat to the Rob Roy defence and never really looking like scoring, the large travelling support were making their way to the exits long before the end.

Rob Roy: McKinven, Watt, (Baillie (50), McKenzie, Smith, Merrilees (Jarvis 59), Mitchell, Duff (Morton 83), Hay, Sawyers, Deas, Martin.
