Scottish Cup 4th Round
Harestanes progressed through to the fifth round of the Scottish with an impressive performance against a useful Clydebank outfit.
The scoreline suggests a relatively easy passage but McKegney’s heroics prevented the visitors having as much as a two goal lead early doors. Apart from this, Harestanes put in a great performance to earn their reward with special mention going to McRae and McDonald. Both scored hat-tricks, with McRae’s being a ‘perfect one’.
By the tenth minute Harestanes had the lead. McRae found McClune wide right, he crossed for McDonald to side-foot in. By the twentieth minute the Hares were two up. Welsh delivered the corner, McRae rose to head high into the net to secure his first.
Kilbowie did come close to pulling one back but again McKegney was there to put out for the corner. McCafferty nearly gifted one to the visitors but somehow McKegney got a leg out to block the certainty.
McRae’s second came from great play by himself in the midfield. He struck wide to McClune who sent it back for McRae to strike into the net from twenty yards. His third came out of a poor defensive header which allowed the chance to strike from fairly close in. By the end of the first half Harestanes were five up. Welsh crossed for McClune to neatly head in.
Harestanes were six up early in the second half. McDonald had a clear run through on the keeper, he slammed the ball by him and into the net. Kilbowie pulled a couple back with a shot and a volley before McDonald scored Harestanes’ seventh.
He collected wide left, cut inside shimmied to shoot one way and stroked in the other. Harestanes’ next match is on Saturday against Garrowhill. Kick off 1.30pm at Merkland.
