WINTER weather put paid to sporting contests across East Dunbartonshire at the weekend.

Casualties included Rob Roy’s home match against Petershill (see below) and Rossvale FC’s game against Vale of Clyde at Petershill Park.

Lenzie Rugby Club’s home game against Wigtownshire was also postponed, as was Allan Glen’s away visit to GHK.

Campsie Minerva’s match was called off – the third week in a row without a game. The team were due to play Arkleston AFC in the fourth round of the Scottish Amateur Cup.

Manager Tony Findlay said: “Saturday’s call-off was a real disappointment for everyone at the club. Three weeks without a game affects the player’s fitness. Most games were off in East Dunbartonshire this weekend and like other teams we had to hurriedly arrange suitable indoor training facilities at extra costs to the club.”

The Lennoxtown-based team will retain this fixture until the match is played.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Cup fifth-round game between Campsie Black Watch U19s and Valspar FC had to be abandoned.

The young Watch started the tie in a very determined mood and took the lead in the third minute when Richardson blasted the ball home from inside the box. However, the feelgood factor only lasted until the 10th minute when, despite playing on astrograss, the referee abandoned the match to safeguard the players from serious injury due to patches of ice which failed to soften.

This was a decision that was accepted by both teams and coaches, and the game will hopefully take place this Saturday.

Lenzie RFC’s 1st XV game was postponed against Wigtownshire, but the 2nd XV beat Carrick by 32-20 – the highlight being a hat-trick by Steven Knight.

This weekend, the 1st XV travel to Waysiders and the 2nd XV host GHA – kick-offs at 2pm.

Lenzie RFC will hold a ceilidh on Saturday, December 22 – tickets available from Charlie Stewart.

Rossvale FC’s game against Vale of Clyde has been rearranged for December 29. This Saturday they are due to play Wishaw Juniors – a game which was postponed on November 24.
