A talented school pupil has peaked at just the right time for a winning week at three recent schools athletics championships.
Lenzie Academy athlete Scott Connal won his first gold medal of the week on Saturday, June 6, at the Scottish Schools Athletics Association (SSAA) Combined Events Championships at Grangemouth Stadium.
Scott hurdled, threw, ran and jumped himself to a 3128 points total for first place. Notable performances were a 6m46cm long jump and a gutsy 4:44:75 1500m run.
Three days later and he was back at Grangemouth for the Dunbartonshire Schools Championships where he landed gold in the 200m (44.2secs), high jump (1m75cm) and long jump with a new championship record jump of 6m42cm. He also won the Hudson Scott Memorial Shield, for the best male athlete, for the second time.
Then, on the Friday, there was more success in perfect conditions for the SSAA Individual Event Championships and Scott was the only competitor to clear 1m87cm in the high jump.
Saturday’s SSAA u17 pole vault final finished an amazing week with a bronze medal with a clearance of 3m80cm.
He is now in second place on the Scottish u17 high jump rankings, with a chance of selection for UK school events in the coming months.
