ALLAN Glen’s RFC took on second-placed Berwick on Saturday and gave a resounding display of running and tenacious rugby.

Glens opened the scoring after just two minutes with a penalty by Auld, but after another 20 minutes, against the run of play, Berwick scored a try through Young, from a driving maul on the home line.
Glens continued to pressure the visitors, but handling errors gave no change of scoring. A Berwick penalty by Hackett made a half-time score of 5-8.
After the break Glens got it together and immediately scored a try when veteran centre Andy Johnston shook off several defenders to touch down near the posts. Auld added the extra points.
A few minutes later Auld slotted a penalty for the home side, but Hackett replied for the visitors a couple of minutes later.
Glens’ pressure tactics paid off and gave Berwick no time to settle – and indeed force errors which produced another penalty for Auld.
Determined play by Glens resulted in another try when wing Jono Morrell barged through the visitors defence to touch down.
Berwick by this time were becoming more and more desperate as they saw their chances of promotion being diminished and only stalwart defending by the home side prevented the visitors from scoring.
This frustration on the visitors part only resulted in Glens being awarded another penalty which Auld was delighted to stroke between the posts.
Overall it was a great display by Glens – the foundation laid by a hard-working and capable pack which produced clean possession for the backs to exploit.
