Bowler Gavin Ansari has suffered a narrow defeat in the opening match of the World Cup in Australia.
Ansari, who lives in Lenzie and bowls for Lenzie Bowling Club outdoors and Cumbernauld Indoor Bowling Club indoors, was beaten by two sets to one by Hong Kong’s Kevin Fung in his opening pool match in Warilla, New South Wales.
The 27-year-old took the opening set by 7-4 but Fung hit back to take the second set 11-3.
That set up a decider which the Hong Kong player edged 3-2.
However with 10 players in each of the competition’s two pools, there is still plenty of time of Ansari to recover.
The winners of each pool go straight into the semi-finals with second and third playing off to decide who else makes up the top four.
