ATHLETICS aces from Lenzie Academy competed at the annual Scottish Schools Road Relay Championships recently.
Both the boys teams were in outstanding form, claiming medal places.
Congratulations to all the Academy athletes who were selected to compete at this national competition.
The S1 girls team – Kirsty Martin, Olivia Selby, Iona Foulis and Sophia Gregg-Arlt – had a fine run, finishing in 16th place.
The S1 boys team – Andrew Henderson, Ewan Wilson and Ben Dalziel – was led by Andrew into a strong position in the top group, Ewan closed the gap into second place and Ben brought the team home in silver medal place.
The U15/O15 boys medley team continued the good work by producing another outstanding performance.
Led by S2 Jack McCabe in eighth place and followed by Calum McCormack, who finished his leg in fourth place, the competition continued to be hotly contested in the over-15s third and fourth legs.
S4 Gavin Alexander, the school’s Scottish squad triathlete, brought the team into second place and S6 Callum Heirs ran very bravely against the Williamwood and Fettes College boys to bring the team home in bronze medal place.
Hilary MacGuire, of the PE department, said: “May I take this opportunity to thank the parents for their support and encouragement. Also to our senior pupils who assisted with the S1 athletes warm-up preparations.”
