JOGGERS are hoping to beat the New Year blues – and the winter weather – by taking part in a famous local run.
Fingers and toes are being crossed that the Lenzie Jog will go ahead on Monday, January 3.
The popular event had to be cancelled last year due to severe snow and ice.
However, hope springs eternal for Lenzie Community Council and Kirkintilloch Olympians. The event is traditionally when Lenzie residents turn out en masse to run off some of the extra pounds put on over Christmas and New Year.
Registration will be at Dean House, next to Lenzie Public Hall, at 10am – costing 50p for children and 1 for adults to cover refreshments and arrangements on the day.
Races will start promptly at 11am from Cedar Drive, next to the BP garage on Kirkintilloch Road. There is a 2km run for children and a 4km circuit for adults, which can be completed either once or twice, depending on each runner's stamina and level of fitness.
There will be marshals along the route to ensure safety and fair play for all participants.
A spokesperson said: "The Lenzie Jog is an annual tradition and a fun event for all the family. Mums, dads, kids, grannies and even pets are all welcome. Everyone is encouraged to come along and join in if possible.
"And for those who can't or don't want to jog – we hope they will come along as well to offer moral support to those who do."
