A Bishopbriggs-based gymnastics clubs has scooped a special top award at the Glasgow Sports Person of the Year Awards.

Storm Gymnastics Club collected the Lord Provost Award at a glitz ceremony held in Glasgow’s City Chambers to recognise the outstanding sporting achievements of individuals, teams and clubs who have excelled in their sporting endeavour in 2017, and the fabulous work done by young athletes, coaches, schools and volunteers.

Club founder Janet McClintock, who started the club 10 years ago, said to say the clubs was proud of winning the Achievement Award presented by the Lord Provost of Glasgow - and previously won by Dame Kelly Holmes and Sir Andy Murray - would be an understatement.

She said: “Storm welcomes over 250 gymnasts every week to take part in safe, fun classes offered to all children irrelevant of age, gender, ability or social background.

“Not only does Storm offer a variety of classes for all children - whether for fun or fitness, but the club’s elite team of junior and senior squads have many members who are current Scottish champions and have represented Scotland at the British Championships.”

Storm gymnasts continued that success at the recent Scottish Tumble Competition in Dunfermline, the club’s first competition of 2018.

The Club landed a total of 16 medals and dominated the club level competition, winning medals in every category they entered.

A further three National Development Plan gymnasts will now move onto the finals in March with a hope of winning the title and representing Scotland in June.

The award-winning club is also delighted be starting brand new classes in the new Auchinairn Community Centre, Bishopbriggs, when it opens in April.

The classes will take place on Saturdays with pre-school, recreational and development classes for boys and girls from aged 12 months upwards.
