Scotia Race Walking Club had a fantastic weekend in the Kyle 10 mile race.

On a very warm morning, and a hilly route ahead, Kirkintilloch’s Agnes Ellis and Bill McFadden took their place in the starting line up of the walk race.

From the start Bill and Agnes moved ahead and work hard to maintain a steady pace through the undulating course.

Unfortunately for Bill no marshall was present at the final corner and, after climbing more than halfway up another steep hill, was approached by a marshall on his way to the final marshall point and advised that the finish was on the bottom road, resulting in Bill having to decend the hill to the bottom road.

Despite the extra, Bill completed the course in a record 1 hour 31 minutes, with Agnes walking home in 1 hour 45 minutes taking second place in the walking, as one of the walkers ran the route to finish in 1 hr 35.

Robert Rogerson from Kirkintilloch Olympians took part in the running race around the same course finishing 11th in a time of 1 hour 9 minutes.

Meanwhile club members had a great response to their recent come and try event at Woodhead Park.

The weather held out for the 3K event and the club would like to thank all the helpers from Scotia and St Mary’s Church who helped to make it a great day.

Results were - 1 Bill McFadden (Scotia RWC) 22:53; 2 Cathy McNab (RUALK Kirkintilloch) 23:20; 3 Moira Pettigrew (RUALK Kirkintilloch) 23:26; 4 Pauline McFadden (Kirkintilloch) 24:08; 5 Olivia Finlay (Kirkintilloch) 25:27; 6eq Laura Finlay (Rualk Kirkintilloch), Mark Finlay (Rualk Kirkintilloch), Andrew Fraser (Scotia RWC) 25:29; 9 Alison Chalmers (Kirkintilloch) 30:32.

For anyone who is interested in walking and didn’t make the event, there is a walking section in St Mary’s running/walking group which meets on a Monday and Wednesday evening between 7pm and 8pm.

A Wednesday evening has a fitness walking section and all abilities are welcome.
