Rab hopes to turn the tide

On Saturday, Lok hoped to get their Stagecoach superleague premier division campaign back on track against Auchinleck Talbot at Beechwood Park.

However,the match was abandoned by the referee after 24 minutes, with the scores at 0-0.

The high wind made the game unplayable.

This weekend, Petershill come to Newlandsfield for the highly anticipated second round cup clash, in which Lok will seek revenge.

Earlier this month, Pollok lost 5-2 to their Glasgow rivals, but on Saturday, Hill were defeated 5-1 at the hands of Kilbirnie Ladeside, a result which should create some optimism around Newlandsfield.

The southsiders are hoping to regain focus and concentrate on matters on the pitch following a managerial merry-go-round which is continuing to turn.

After Stephen Docherty resigned from his position, club secretary Frannie McNeil and Rab Sneddon ,previous boss of Blantyre Vics, Shotts Bon Accord, Bellshill Athletic, Maryhill and Pollok, took charge for last week’s game.

Now, Frannie has stepped to one side and will leave Rab, as well as David Lilley, the former Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle defender, to lead the coaching set up for the time being.

Secretary Frannie McNeil told ExtraSport: “Last Saturday, the game should have been called off earlier on.

“We started to play, and were actually playing very well under the circumstances, but there was no way to continue playing, safety of the players and supports is the most important thing.

“As a club, we hope to redeem ourself after the drubbing by Petershill. The cup is important to the whole of the team and they will be up for it. It is important we do well for our supporters.”

After Saturday’s game, the team will turn their attention back to the league, where they hope to regain some form and climb up the table.

Frannie continued: “League points are still the most important. Steve has left, so we are waiting to see what happens now.

“We have asked for applications for the job and shortly we will decide who is the best man to take the club forward now.

“Rab and David will take the team for the moment and we have every faith they will do well. The biggest priority is to get the team organised.”
