Armadale Thistle 2 Rob Roy 5
Emirates Scottish Junior Cup Third Round
Rabs powered their way into the last 32 of the national trophy with a comfortable victory over their workman-like East Region opponents.
After a tentative opening period it was Rabs who showed the initiative with Bradley firing a Diack lay-off over the bar.
Then, from a Connolly cross, Meechan should have made his header count from a few yards out.
There was little between the sides until the half hour mark when Rabs broke the deadlock.
McVey broke down the left wing before sending over an inviting cross to Diack who slotted the ball neatly into the corner of the net.
Rabs keeper Robertson did well to push a Jack 25 yard free-kick around the post in the 35th minute.
The resultant corner was cleared up-field to Bradley who made the running before switching the ball over to Meechan to bundle the ball into the net from close range.
Before the half-time break Rob Roy went all out to increase their lead with Bradley only inches wide with a volley and home keeper Walker being forced to dash from his goalmouth to clear from the onrushing Bradley.
Rabs were stunned a minute into the second half when McLeod pulled a goal back for Thistle from a suspiciously offside position.
It could have been worse for Rabs two minutes later when Feeney’s shot landed in the back of the net only to be ruled out as the ball had gone through a hole in the side netting.
The game was held up for five minutes as the necessary repairs were carried out.
With Rabs in the ascendancy McVey lobbed over the Armadale bar, then two minutes later the defender set up Meechan who sent in a first time volley which keeper Walker managed to block.
The loose ball fell to Bradley who promptly sent a well placed shot into the net to restore the visitors’ two-goal advantage.
Diack increased Rabs lead in the 58th minute when he rose at the back post to nod in a Bradley cross.
To their credit the East Region side battled on and after Morrison had a header saved by Robertson they pulled a goal back nine minutes from time from a Feeney header.
With the heavy conditions telling on the home side, Chic Connolly ran through the Dale defence before slotting the ball past Walker with three minutes remaining to make the final result 5-2 in Rabs’ favour and give them a result which saw their name in the fourth-round draw.
