A STORMING second-half comeback spared Rob Roy gaffer Jimmy Lindsay’s blushes on Saturday – after watching league strugglers Shotts Bon Accord take an unexpected 2-0 lead over his never-say-die team.
Four goals in the second 45 minutes secured the 4-2 victory which kept Rabs flying high in the league – with a match against table-toppers Auchinleck Talbot this Saturday promising to be one of the games of the season.
Lindsay told the Herald: “To be honest, even though we were 2-0 down we were okay and were playing well.
“I told them at half-time to just keep on playing the same way, to keep the tempo up and that the goals would come. That’s exactly what they did and the goals did come.
“The players have to take the credit for the win.
“The good thing is that they don’t panic and change the way they play – they just get on with it and stick to the game-plan.
“When it came to the second half they dominated completely and entirely deserved the win.”
The three points kept Rabs third in the league and the Kirkintilloch team have a game in hand over both Petershill, who they trail by a single point, and leaders Auchinleck, who are six points better off.
That lead could be halved this weekend if Rabs can find a way to beat the only team who remain undefeated in the league.
Lindsay said: “Games don’t get any bigger than this although this league is a marathon not a sprint.
“I don’t think whoever wins this weekend will think they have the league in the bag, but it would be good to go there and get something from the game.”
Rob Roy take on Auchinleck Talbot at Beechwood Park on Saturday. Kick-off is at 2pm.
