An Auchinloch teenager has been selected to join the National Youth Development Swimming Squad following a successful season in the pool.

Duncan McKinney (13), was crowned Scottish Schools champion for the 200m freestyle in March of this year.

He also took silver 100m freestyle and was awarded the best boy trophy for the 14 and under age group.

In June, the Lenzie Academy pupil became the Scottish champion at the 13 years 1500 freestyle group, while also winning a total of five silver medals at the event in Aberdeen.

Duncan then went on to compete at the British Age Groups championships in Sheffield in August.

Shortly afterwards, the youngster joined up with the City of Glasgow Swim Team as he looks to further his progress.

He caught the eye of Scottish Swimming and Duncan was picked for the development team.

Duncan comes from a family of swimmers with brother Graeme and sister Tanya both competing at the schools level.

Mum Alieda also met her husband Mark while both were members of the Glasgow Nomads swimming team.
