Gig Review: Paul Brady at The Venue

Paul Brady, singer and songwriter.
Paul Brady, singer and songwriter.

Paul Brady’s songs have been recorded by some of the music industry’s major artists, including Tina Turner and Bonnie Raitt.

Paul was in Glasgow recently to play two sold out shows at Oran Mor’s Venue, and from the moment the Irish man stepped on stage for the Thursday night performance it was clear this was going to be an evening of great music.

Regarded by many as the songwriters’ songwriter, Brady is also an outstanding acoustic guitarist.

As far as gigs go this really was a very special evening and the between songs chats and excellent sound gave the event a real intimate atmosphere, as if it was taking place in your livingroom.

Kicking off with ‘Beyond the Reach of Love’ Paul went on to deliver a career-spanning set that had something for everyone.

But it wasn’t just a ‘greatest hits’ show and new song ‘Days Gone By’ got a rapturous reaction from the enthusiastic audience.

Highlight of the night, however, was a poignant rendition of the thought-provoking ballad ‘The Island’, which saw Paul put down the guitar and move on to keyboard.

Other great renditions on the night included ‘Nobody Knows’, ‘The World Is What You Make It’, ‘Smile’, ‘Nothing But The Same Old Story’ and a stunning second encore of ‘The Lakes of Pontchartrain’.

As far as acoustic gigs go this was one of the best, made all the more special by Paul’s great rapport with the audience.
